It is a shame that Prada seems not to be selling the spring/summer 2011 shoes as they appeared on the runway, because I love them SO much. The version which you can buy, available in a range of different coloured leathers, is not the same as the runway version: the soles are much thinner, and as a result the lines and proportions don't work as well. They lack that certain something that the runway ones possess. It annoys me when things which are shown on the runway (and shot in all the magazine editorials) are not produced for sale, or are only made in watered-down versions. From runway to retail, the women's ones became somewhat less exciting too:

I don't understand why you can't order the runway version, because the non-runway ones have to be made-to-order from Italy anyway. I persuaded the (very helpful) Prada sales assistant to say I was a VIP customer (ha ha ha) who wanted the runway verson, but he couldn't get Italy to send a pair. The runway ones surely can't be that much harder to make, not least because every Prada shop has mannequins wearing them, but no Prada shop in London or Paris sells them..

such a let down, at least the sales assistant put effort in; when i asked i just got no'd off. unimpressed.
ReplyDeleteman i didn't realise that at all. gee wizz, the whole thing of them on the mannequins is just so misleading
ReplyDeleteAmen! It's soo annoying.

whoa! I had no idea! That's valuable information and I'll help spreading the news, maybe something can be done about it if it reaches the proper masses... Who knows, maybe the Prada crew listens to the people's voice? Fingers crossed.
ReplyDeletethe mens version with colour stripes is totally availably in stores... of course unless they aren't sold out yet.

ahhhh, which stores sell them??!
ReplyDeleteNo stores sell them because they are samples only. Those in blogs are likely lent by Prada to a magazine/stylist. I've spoken with people at Milan and the shoes will surely not be produced so grab a pair before they're gone.
ReplyDeleteSO MAD AT PRADA!
ReplyDeletethe whole point of the shoe was the sneaker platform!
and why put the shoes in magazines with prices next to them if they arent even for sale?!
truly infuriating. Especially seeing how much all the high street stores are now cottoning on and making crapper affordable versions to a huge demand.
ReplyDeleteI don't find it very amusing for Prada to plaster these on their display windows, website and every magazine only to greet customers with an unimaginative water-downed version. If commercial viability was what they were aiming for, they sure do a good job at keeping the more conservative crowd away.
ReplyDeleteIt's a shame one cannot purchase what has been advertised and promoted. If one is willing to pay, the style should be available. Perhaps they're trying to create two classes of customers. Those with the links get the exclusive styles and the rest get the "style for the masses". Personally, I don't like those shoes. People, save your money! In a year you likely won't wear them because... "they'll be so 2011!"
ReplyDeleteIf anyone knows how to get hold of a GIVENCHY GOLD GLADIATOR Sandal. Uh, we need to chat.
ReplyDeletePrada's visual team are very sniffy about their windows being touched. Buddy up with a sales assistant and ask to be called when the displays change. You'll have a wait on your hands but worth it surely?
ReplyDeletehave you tried Japan. They seem to always get special items

Ugggh. I bought a pair of the very colorful runway sandles at neiman as soon as they were offered - the shipment was delayed and I was just informed they were never shipped to the store and my purchase was canceled. Its infuriating! I want them
ReplyDeleteTell me more about Japan - my husband is there now do you think he can find different styles?
